Solve : dual system Vista & XP?

Answer»

Hi

I've not used Vista, someone wants to put xp sp2 on his laptop which as Vista installed.
1. can it be DONE?
2. will the be any problems or hiccups?

he want to run programs but Vista willnot reconise the program, as it is not the latest version.
so by running XP on his particioned drive, will this solve the PROBLEM.

any comments welcome.

regards
PThe problem you might find dualbooting, is that XPs boot loader will not recognize Vista, so you could lose the ability to run Vista. You WOULD need wither a third PARTY boot loader, or just run XP in Virtual PC or VM Ware.
Good LuckHave him try and run the programs in Compatibility Mode...

To do so:

   1. Open Windows Explorer.
   2. Location the application executable.
   3. Right click the executable and click the Properties option.
   4. Select the Compatibility tab.
   5. Select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode option.
   6. From the drop-down list, choose the operating system you ran before upgrading to Vista.
   7. If necessary, select the option to run the program as an administration.
   8. Click OK.

Installing more than one version of Windows is not that difficult to do however for it to run properly the older ver. should be installed first...which would mean he would be wiping out Vista; installing XP; finding and installing all the correct Drivers for XP; making sure everything works; and then finally re-installing Vista and it's drivers.

If he does want to do it this way post back and let us know. Quote from: pohhop on June 17, 2008, 08:02:15 AM

hi there you of course install win xp on the notebook......i have a compaq presario V6211AU and it came with vista home edition.it was really slow cos it came with only 512 mb RAM so what i did was just formated the recovery partition and installed win xp on it....   there are two problems which u will face here
1)the first one is dual booting which can easily be solved by performing repair operation from a vista cd(any thing will do even pirated one's also work)
2)the second one is of course the drivers problem you can find the relevant win xp drivers from  your manufacturers website.some times they won;t provide u with all the driver so what u need to do is just download the drivers of other notebook which have got similar configuration like your's
