Solve : email programme?

Answer»

hi everyone,
I have a question for you. When I bought my new computer that is running Vista Ultimate Office 2007 Professional/Academic, the default programme for emails was and is, Microsoft Outlook. I find this programme a pain as it is linked to a bunch of other programmes and it also does not allow one to use stationery- except for the very boring microsoft templates. It also disables animations in in-coming emails and won't allow selection of text for printing- forcing the use of Microsoft Word for this. My question is, can I opt to use Windows Mail for my email programme instead, would Windows Mail be better and if so, how do I go about doing this? Please explain in simple terms as I am a farmer not an IT expert (some farmers I know are- but unfortunately not me).
thanks for any help,

well, Outlook is part of Office, which consists of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Powerpoint, as you know. But, when doing email,, it works alone for that purpose. So, I'm not sure what you mean when you SAY "it is linked to a bunch of other programmes". That should not be a problem when using Outlook for email.

I think the basic problem here is lack of KNOWLEDGE of all the features and capabilities of Outlook. I'm sure you can add many stationaries to the ones you see from a default installation of Outlook. I'm not looking at Outlook 2007 right now. I'll take a look at it LATER and post again, regarding animations and selection of text for printing.

Yes, you can opt to use Windows Mail as your default email program. Would it be better? Well, I use it and I think it works fine. Well, I see that animation can not be enabled in Outlook 2007. Apparently, Microsoft made this decision for security reasons. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102014391033.aspx for some info on this.

I think you'll find Windows Mail much easier to use for your email, or try Thunderbird, as patio mentioned. Windows Mail will display animations and you can create your own stationary or download more from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/stationery.aspx or numerous other sources.

To make Windows Mail your default email client, open it. I think it will ask you whether you want to make it your default email client. If not, post back and I'll give further instructions on that. hi Sage,
thank you I will give it a go and let you know how Iget on.
Thanks,
to everyone for their help.
