Solve : error 10F8060002?

Answer»

Hi - I think I have a hard drive problem but wanted to check here before I go buy a new one. My daughter's Toshiba laptop contracted a number of viruses and trojans so I decided to just wipe the whole thing and start from scratch. This is a Satellite M105-S3041 running Windows XP Home. This computer has a SYSTEM reload disk and so I tried running it and selecting the "restore to out of box" CONFIGURATION option. Acts like it's working ok and then after appearing to run through the copy process the subject error message comes up along with "Windows - DELAYED write failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \device\harddiskvolume2\windows\system32\cdfview.dll. The data has been lost. This error MAY be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file ELSEWHERE." I receive this error message for a number of files and then after I click through all of them receive the message "Recovery error. Please press OK to turn off the computer". The computer had been running slowly anyway even before the trojans so that's why I think it's hardware related (plus of course that's what the error message says).

Can anyone provide guidance as to what the most likely cause is and what initial steps I should take? Thanks very for your help.It sounds like your hard drive is bad.

You can try to download the tools for your drive and check for errors. You can get them from the drive manufacture's web site.

Also you can try to clean your restore CD. Just to make sure its being read right.

Last thing I would do is to buy another hard drive.
