The laptop is about a 5 YEAR old COMPAQ Laptop (not a business laptop), which has Microsoft XP Home Edition. it maybe but, try this: Run 'sfc /scannow' Hey spider, thanks for the recommendation. I tried it, and I took see that the command prompt opened up, but literally only for a split of a second and then it goes away. I don't know what that means, but I don't think it worked... Hey Broni, are you saying to try /sfc scannow in safe mode?I just want to know, if the computer will operate normally in Safe Mode.Quote from: Broni on December 17, 2008, 08:27:46 PM I just want to know, if the computer will operate normally in Safe Mode. Nope, same thing HAPPENS. It's really odd...If this is an infection, my advice won't help, but if it's not, it's WORTH a shot: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Have you tried System Restore? If he can try in 5 sec flat, worth a try.if any of this doesn't work... you can do a repair install, that way your sister won't lose any of her programs or files. do you have the XP CD? if it happen in safe mode... that could also be a hardware issue... let's hope not Broni, you are in the RIGHT direction to me spider |
