Answer» I am using a desktop with Windows XP SP2 with a Intel Celeron Processor. RAM: 256 MB HP Pavilion 520n 10 gb hard drive OTHER INFO: It has worked before, this is not what happened RIGHT after installing the OS. Whenever my computer starts, it starts with no desktop. No start menu, no programs, nothing. I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete, create new task, and type in explorer.exe and it starts then immediatly closes. I have searched my computer for viruses, and spyware and found nothing. I have tried system restore and it did not work. I tried booting in safe MODE and the exact same thing happens. I tried booting from the last known good configuration, and the same thing happens, I can not start explorer.exe. Not to get confused, this is not Internet explorer, I can start internet explorer fine and browse my files through there but it would be a lot easier if I could get my desktop to start. I NEED to know if this is a problem with my registry or system files. I also need to know if there is a way to fix this without re-installing the operating system. Interesting.I guess I must have overloaded my system (I kept hitting create new task, typing in explorer then hitting enter till it was up to 100 processes), but I got explorer.exe to open for a couple of minutes and I got a buffer ovverrun error. I ran AVG anti-virus, and it found nothing. I also ran ZoneAlarm Security Suite and searched for any spyware and viruses and it found nothing. I started my comp, and it has the Win98 theme. I tried changing it, but the only theme there was the windows classic theme. My internet connection also went dead. I looked at my connections, and I had no connections there. I tried to create a new connection and the connection wizard wouldn't open. I have to use a different computer to use the internet and post here. It would really be nice if my internet would work...Sounds like a wipe and reinstall to me Backup everything first. Alan <><
