Solve : External Hard Drive Question?

Answer»

I removed hard drive from old laptop (dead), hooked it up to new laptop from the USB port.

Under My Computer, it says 28gb free of 320gb for it.

When I open the drive and select all (CRT + A), it says total file size is 19gb....

I am BACKING everything up before reformatting but want to be sure I have everything. Where is the other 270gb or so???

Do I need to hook up this on an admin account so I could have permission to view more things?

Thanks allCan you post a screen capture of the screen where you have selected objects by using CRT + A?

When you use CRT + A, are you seeing the standard Documents, Photos, Music, etc. folders, or what? I presume the files you want to save off the old drive are in those standard Windows folders. Is that correct? In other words, you aren't TRYING to backup PROGRAM files, are you? Probably CTRL A'd My Documents...Well when I CTRL + A, it shows me everything on the actual external hard drive only.

In hp recovery mode: I can RECOVER LIKE 270gb.

But when I plug this into another laptop, it's only like 10 or 15 gb...

I'm guessing it's because things are hidden since only admins can access them? What OS on that HDD ? ?

For XP...
