Answer» I deleted my boyfriends acct (on purpose ) a few days ago. Since he was furious over losing his "FAVORITES" online, I tried to do a restore by going back a week. When I WENT to log on to his acct, I kept getting a message saying PC Tools Antivirus has encountered a problem and my computer must be restarted. I have tried removing the antivirus program but it wont allow me to. It also wont allow him to access his Favorites online, he cant get into his documents, pictures or music files. It keeps telling him he cannot access any of this information. When I go into Add/Remove PROGRAMS in the control panel and try to remove PC Tools Antivirus, the message I receive is "C:/ProgramFiles/PCToolsAntivirus/unins000msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of program. HELP!!!Reinstall PC Tools Antivirus: http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/Hello, Kristina824
If you still have the same problem or reinstalling PCTools then please FOLLOW these instructions. If not please do not follow these instructions. I might have come up with a solution to your problem. Please follow these steps and see if it helps.
1. Click on the Start button. The Start menu will appear. 2. Select ''Shut Down'' from the menu. 3. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with VARIOUS options. 4. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode'. Do not select 'Safe Mode with networking' or any other modes. 5. Login to your account (if asked). 6. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode. 7. Navigate and delete the following folders.
c:\Program Files\Common Files\PC Tools\ c:\Program Files\PC Tools Internet Security\ c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PC Tools\ c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\PC Tools Internet Security\
8. Select Start>Run 9. Type in regedit and click OK 10. Please locate the following keys and remove them: 11. BE EXTREMELY careful when you are editing your registry if you make a wrong mistake you could SERIOUSLY MESS UP YOUR PC! Disclaimer: I am IN no WAY liable or RESPONSIBLE for you doing anything wrong or messing up your computer by following these instructions.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PCTools\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PCTools\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\PC Tools Internet Security
Reboot the system and PCTools should now be completely removed.
