FILE BACKUP AND TRANSFER SOFTWARE - BEST...!!!

Hi everyone...!!!

WHICH IS THE BEST SOFTWARE (PREFERABLY FREEWARE) CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR FILE BACK UP AND TRANSFER...? (NOT SYSTEM CLONING but only data/file backup and transfer)

Scenario:

I am having one Hard Disk of say 200 GB with three PARTITIONS 20 GB; 40GB; and 140 GB Balance.

There is a huge amount of valuable data (only) of somehwhat say 70 GB on 3rd partition of 140 GB.

I want to move (transfer - not back up) this 70 GB of voluminous data from this 3rd partition to another Hard disk of 160 GB where there is already data of 30 GB.

I dont want to do CUT - PASTE...(bcz long file names are not copied and if there is a problem in copying at any stage the entire copying procedure stops in between and then its diffuclt to track in thousands of folders and files what has been copied and what not)

I cannot clone as in that case destination data of 30 GB will be lost...whereas my goal is to add 70 GB of data from partition 3 of hard disk one to already existing 30 GB data of hard disk 2...without destroying data in hard disk 2 (which would happen in cloning or image recovery)

Request:

Can i request all OF U TO PLZ SUGGEST ME Some way / idea / software / trick/ mechanism so that i can freely move large amount of data - be it transfer or copying from one partition to another partition of same hard disk or another hard disk....

WHICH IS THE BEST SOFTWARE (PREFERABLY FREEWARE) CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR FILE BACK UP AND TRANSFER...? (NOT SYSTEM CLONING but only data/file backup and transfer)

I hope I have been able to explain my situation clearly and hence would urge plz plz to put forward valuable suggestions and replies....

Thanks and Best Regards

sunandoghosh at gmail dot comI'd use Norton Ghost. It's not just for image cloning, you can also transfer partition to partition.I like Acronis but,Raptor's Norton Ghost is a great program.

Since we know how to find your E-mail address don't openly
post it. Quote

What's your OS?  Please explain the comment on long file names.  Are both hard drives in the same computer?  If so, then the same OS you were running when you created these files is the OS that would be doing the CUT and PASTE.  So, why the problem when the long file names?

If you encounted problems USING CUT and PASTE, why not break the files down into smaller batches?  And, I think you should definitely use COPY, not CUT.

Have TRIED using the Windows Backup UTILITY?  I see no reason that would not work for this purpose.  Do you any CD/DVD burning software installed, such as Nero or Roxio?
Try SyncBack for your needs...incremental backups; file comparison between drives/partitions; automated scheduling etc...

patio.   8-)Acronis True Image for me.   Quote
Acronis True Image for me.
But, is it the right tool in this case?  The OP said, "WHICH IS THE BEST SOFTWARE (PREFERABLY FREEWARE) CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR FILE BACK UP AND TRANSFER...? (NOT SYSTEM CLONING but only data/file backup and transfer)"

It does full and incremental backups, whole partitions, whole computers, etc. as well as cloning. What more could you want? Quote

Eggs over easy , perhaps ? ?

i also use Acronis... Quote

I did not know whether it did all that and I doubt many other people know either, since we so often see it mentioned as a tool for creating a mirror image of a whole drive or partition.  I even took a quick look at their website, or some website which sells it, and the description did not mention all the capabilities you've stated here.A website that sells it won't have all the details ....travel here:

patio.   8-)hmm... if youve got two computers I would install Cerberus FTP server on one and then Filezilla FTP Client on the other and transfer it that way.

Then your not messing with images and the like, also its a straight transfer. Quote

Yep, good info there.  And, I see they have a forum devoted to it.
Actually just wanted to give link where those two are compared.

and for me  True Image is much better then Ghost.
