i bought a used laptop to run software on to FLASH program the computer in my car. Dell Latitude CPi running Widows 98. it worked fine until the hardrive crashed, and i sent it back to where i purchased it and they installed another hardrive. it was sent to me with the programs already loaded as it was when i first bought it. but now, after installing my software, when i try to open it, i get a BOX that says "Error starting program. The C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC42.DLL file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file, and then try again."
how do i reinstall this file. i have no start-up disk since everthing was already loaded when it was shipped to me. what do i do now?

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813181ok i downloaded a new MFC42.DLL file and when i try to reinstall my software i get an error message; "An error occured while registering the file C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC42.DLL' " and it gives options, abort/retry/ignore. if i HIT 'retry' it gives a message box: "this program has preformed an ILLEGAL operation and will be shut down. if the problem persist, contact the program vendor."
if i hit 'ignore' it goes ahead and finishes installing and gives a message box; "TuneItUp setup was completed successfully", but when i try to run the program, it gives the same message; "this program has preformed an illeagle operation blah blah blah."
i have had the vendor resend the software and installed it again with the same result. the program runs fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. what now? and thanks for the help.i'm sure you can tell i'm not very knowlegable about computers so heres what i imagine is a dumb question, but i'm learning. can i try running the setup disk that came with my desktop running windows ME on my laptop that's now running windows 98?YES you can if  this is oem disk and not a recovery disk...win98 question...load the cdrom install disk...click the browse option...click the add-ons folder  click the pws folder next to regsvr32 is icon .........setup click this..and it will re-install your system...the only real difference ..between win98...me...is system restore and some flash themes/wallpaper and a few add ons m$oft dont give much away...
