Answer» I accidentally changed some AVI files to J.PEGs. They won't play now. An error message comes up to say the Codec is not recognised. Is there any way of reversing the files to AVIS? Quote I accidentally changed some AVI files to J.PEGs.How?I did a bulk renaming of my files to get the photos to show in a chosen order. I forgot that there were AVI files amongst them, so they got changed to J.PEGS too. I then changed them back to AVI files, but Windows MEDIA Player cannot play the file, and this error message come up - "The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Is the situation reversible?Quote from: computergeek1 on June 02, 2008, 01:04:20 AM The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Is the situation reversible? I dont like your chancesWhat program was used here ? ? Details always help...Simple renaming file back, and forth shouldn't damage file's header, where file info resides, but as patio said, it 'd be good to know program's name. Also, try opening ONE of those avi files in Irfanview (which is pretty good with reading file's header), or/and VLC Player.Normally, if you just rename the filetype (file.avi), you are pretty much just changing what program will open the file, it WONT change the data inside. |
