Solve : Firewall or Internet Options??

Answer»

hi, I am having trouble with some of the programs on my computer and am hoping that someone can help me out.  For some reason, I can't open Limewire on my computer.   When I click on the icon, it shows the hour glass for a second and then it's LIKE I never even pushed it.  I have also always used trend micro's online scan for my computer periodically.  Ever since I rebuilt my computer, I have not been able to do so.  If I go to the site, when I try and start the scan, it just crashes my internet.  I have looked to see what it is that is causing these problems (including turning off my windows firewall and lowering the restriction rate on my internet options) and can not find a solution.  Anyone ever have this problem or heard anything like it?Who can tell???  A kind description of the info you give is "sparse"!!!

Why have you not said what your pc consists of, what OS you are using, do you have a third party Firewall installed, what AV you use, which browser  etc etc???

Here is a Limewire discussion on firewalls.  Other Limewire sites may be of more help..

Good luck. stimp.......  Based on what you have said and have not said ........ It sounds like you have viruses in residence ........ I'm just a bit curious as to why you would be online with no anti virus ...... and Quote

A online scan is one thing ...but where is the full time protection ?

Please advise more info on your system .......... do you have a floppy drive ?

You betcha ......its called malware ......nasties ....viruses ...trojans

dl65  Where did you obtain LimeWire? Not that virus ridden viper pit known as download.com I hope?
With the level of security that you seem to exhibit, you're probably well and truly owned by now.

At the very minimum, adequate firewall protection must be installed before even considering connecting to a public network. The pathetic XP offering doesn't count!

Before using P2P applications, it's essential that you are fully equipped to deal with any eventualities. A solid, properly implemented and maintained firewall is absolutely essential as is having effective AV, anti trojan and other anti malware solutions in place.

If you're downloading or distrubuting copyrighted etc MATERIAL, other considerations should be met as well.lol..jesus, I feel like everyone just slapped me in the face (j/k)...after I made the post my BUDDY hooked me up with a 3rd party anti virus package that he said is great, I am not at my HOUSE right now but I think it is called NOD32 or something.  We ran a full system scan and found no viruses.  After I tried to access Limewire again (which by the way, I got from download.com), I was still unable to get a result.  He had me download a Tune Up for windows and it fixed 131 problems that I had on windows.  Still, I was unable to go to some websites and/or get on Limewire.  I run windows xp pro, have a lanparty nf4 motherboard, amd athlon 64 san diego processor and my harddrive came out of a dell 6700c computer.  Excuse me if this is still not enough info for you all to help me, I am not the most computer oriented person, only started playing with these things about 8 months ago...figure eventually I will know the ins and outs but for now I am stuck asking for others help.   maybe you have to install java form http://java.sun.com/

to install limewire correctly

OK , Bye
Reinstall the problem program, what is limewire anyway, do you need it?
Trend online scan has stopped working for me too, I think it has to do with the java & activex requirements and I figured if they want to make life so hard I'd just move on to somewhere else.

...it's a P2P program ...... It isnt as riddled with built in spyware as some of the others , however I use it to test various differant malware removers .......As you can always find lots of infected files available for download......  Oh ,yes and I have been known to d/l music to put onto cds for my wifes car .....

dl65  lol..10-4 on the downloading music, I tried to reinstall the problem program...didnt work,  tried to update java, didnt work,  and another thing, I can't install missing plugins either, gives my an unknown plugin error...although, I think I found a solution to my problem.  It includes throwing my computer out of the window and seeing how many peices I can break it into (third floor apt).
