Solve : Folder keeps showing up in Program File.PLS HELP!?

Answer»

Help!!  I keep having this one folder called "Websiteviewer" show up in my Program File. It contains .dlr and .exe files that are numbers with a female "sex" icon.  I keep deleting this folder whenever I find it, but there still must be something in my computer that I need to delete to keep it from opening everytime I get online. I can't figure out what that is, and I'm afraid to just start deleting things without being sure of what they are.
Is there a way to keep this one folder from coming back?
My antivirus software does not recognize it as a virus
and most often this stuff appears after a pop-up called "only the best" comes on my screen WHICH my pop up blocker doesn't even recognize!
The pop-up mostly advertises spyware stuff, but occasionally sex stuff
Is there a way to block this folder from generating itself?
Is there a way to tell if another folder is somehow linked to it that I need to get rid of also?

Grateful for any help!
JudeRead This First - Viruses & SpywareThank you so much for the link to Ad-Ware. I was trying to find that one but it wasn't listed under Ad-Ware as one would think. I downloaded a couple software programs and my computer was LOADED with bad stuff!
I think this might cure the problem, time will tell!
It is so great that this forum exists. For people that don't have the financial means to get computer help, this is a Godsend!
Thanks again,
JudeYou should run the scanners you may have installed on a regular basis.

Have you installed a Firewall as well?

How Stuff Works - How Firewalls WorkNo Firewall.  I have the Norton Personal Firewall disc, but in the past it kept me from being able to surf the web. At least thats what my IP told me. In fact he had me un-install my anti-virus and firewall protection all together, that is probably why all this happened.
I have downloaded Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster. I did already have (and pay for Spykiller 2005, which I WONDER now how good it really is). So I should be well protected now! Do you think I should try to install the Firewall Protection again?
I have been online now since downloading these softwares and have had NO problems like in the past. I even saw the folder and files in question amongst the ones found for quarentine. I was so happy, I think it really WORKED!!
Oh thank you sooo much, I am so very grateful for you!

Muuahh!

You might need to tell your firewall what programs (such as Internet Explorer) you want to access the Internet. Look in its settings for things such as "Programs". When you try to access the Internet, do you get some kind of dialog pop-up from your firewall informing you that a program is trying to access the Internet?Your ISP told you to DISABLE your Firewall?

What ISP are you subscribing to?

Unless you are using a Router (With firmware Firewall) to connect to the Internet, a software firewall is a must.

The
Sygate Personal Firewal (Click) is a very decent (free) firewall. Like Neil said, you need to configure your Firewall. Most Firewalls allow you to give the program the rights to access the Internet or not when you run the program the first time after the Firewall has been installed.

You should also look into
Mozilla Firefox (Click) which offers very good security once configured properly. Wow...see I had NO idea that you had to "program" your firewall, gosh you would think SBC techs would know this kind of thing.  The happy news is that I have been online now for HOURS and I am no longer having any troubles at all, so the next question is...is should I still use my firewall?  Also, I have this one file that my computer will NOT allow me to delete. It's telling ME that access is denied! How rude!  How can I override this??  It is a folder that I renamed hoping to keep it from working (it was the trouble-maker) but now I can't get rid of the darn thing.
Gosh I sure appreciate all ya'll helpin me like this.
Ok, well...I have to leave for a while, but will check in later tonight.
Bless all of you computer genius'
Jude
**I don't remember exactly what does or doesn't pop-up, sorry.  I will check back in later, and see what you had to say about my installing a firewall again.
Thanks Raptor!!!!No, you don't have to program the firewall yourself, just tell it what programs you want to allow to access the Internet. You definatly should get a firewall. If you can't get rid of the folder, try deleting it in safe mode. Keep it in your recycle BIN for a while first, in case you need it.Neil...not to sound stupid, but is the installation and set-up of the firewall software self explanitory?
I'm not stupid, but obviously I didn't know this, but is it something I can do by myself ya think?
I am afraid I don't know about "safe mode" but I do have a friend who might. I can check with her.
Thanks for you ever so speedy response!
I gotta go to work for a while.....
Have a great evening!!

Is this the WebsiteView folder? If not, tell us the original name of the folder.

It has an installer like other Windows programs - The program it's self will be new to you if you have never had a Firewall before.

Zone Alarm Free (Click) comes with a tutorial when it runs for the first time. That may be a better choice for you.disable system restore and scan for bugs...this folder your are trying to get rid of...have you downloaded any programs..some come with a payload including in it...??like kazza>http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_PORNDIAL.BPYOU GUYS ROCK!!!  I disabled my system restore and was able to delete that bad file bada bing bada boom!!
I am so happy!
Again....mucho appreciation!  I can't even begin to tell you all how much time and aggrivation you saved me.
I was just getting ready to format my hard drive and start over, which would have meant MANY HOURS on the PHONE, as I'm sure everyone knows.
How can I ever thank any of you..........
One more question tho if ya'll don't mind.  Is it worth paying for the full version of Ad-Ware to protect my computer while I'm online, or is that what the firewall software is for?  Tell me what to do guys, you've been ACE so far!!  lol
Have a great weekend too!

You can download Spybot S&D which is a free alternative to Ad-aware SE.

But, yes, Ad-aware is worth registering.

Adware scanners remove spyware.

Definition of Spyware

Your Firewall blocks programs that try to access the Internet. (Any program will need access rights first, which you give it when you first launch the program after the Firewall has been installed). Donot blindly give access to each and every program, see if you trust the program first. Otherwise the firewall will be of very little use.

it also protects you from intruders that you will not detect when you donot have a firewall installed.
