Answer» HI I tried reloading the os disc.It asks me do I want to load from hardisc or from cd.
I say cd it loads the 98 on the disc untill the code screen. I think perhaps the 3rd party format disc? is required. I FORGOT I can put a floppy drive in
thanksDLoad a WinME boot disk file from bootdisk.com. The reason you want WinME is it started with larger HDD support. Format a floppy and use the DLoad to create a bootable floppy. Power down and insert the floppy...re-boot. This will load basic drivers and bring you to a black command prompt screen.
WARNING All your data is about to dissappear so be sure this is what you want... At the A: prompt type format C: /u and hit Enter...let it run to completion. It will then ask you for a volume name press Enter for none. Remove the floppy...insert the Win2K CD and re-boot. The setup of Win2K should now start. Follow all the prompts and you should be good to go...Hi Thankyou. I think I have the answer. The computer does not have any of the set up necessary to input the win 2000.I think the new dis might be wrong. I have got 4 floppy disc to input setup. However when all has loaded i have to remove the floppy drive and put in the cd drive.Of course the laptop does not find the cd. I start in bios f12 use removable device. Can you get these boot discs on cd?Quote from: parkinson40 on December 21, 2008, 01:18:52 PM Hi Thankyou. I think I have the answer. I have no idea what the above means other than to prove you do not have an official Win2K installation CD or you WOULD have been done by now... Win2K CD's are bootable. The WinME bootdisk would have worked...why did you switch to the Win2K bootdisk ? ? Depending on how many drives you have you would have to after formatting locate the CD drive letter...WinME makes it R i believe but you could try typing each alphabet letter unless you can SEE the message during setup which states what drive letter the CDROM is assigned. The syntax is for EXAMPLE : At the A: prompt type D: and hit Enter... At the D: prompt type in dir /p and hit Enter ...this will tell you the contents of the drive you are checking...if it shows directory empty then you haven't located the CDROM drive... CONTINUE the process til you find the Win2k contents on the CD... Once you find it : Example R: shows Win2K and a WinNT folder etc. then at the prompt type setup and hit Enter. Once again the install should start. Good Luck.
