Don't worry, you deserve it You guys are certainly busy on a Saturday morning. I had an appointment last night and just got on the computer today. I REALLY appreciate all the help.

Actually, I did respond; my quotes were in your post. Don't think I don't appreciate you, just pointing it out.

OK, this is what I have done so far. I have moved the pagefile from C to D. I don't have any $uninstall files, as I keep them deleted, since I read it in a previous post somewhere. I used TreePie and found out I had a whole chunk set aside for Software DISTRIBUTION, so I turned off Automatic Update and deleted a major part of that, so much that now I have nearly 2G free space.

I have been using CCleaner for nearly a year now. I use Mozilla Firefox, not Internet Explorer, Patio, but I will follow your advice anyway because I do not want to lose the space I have. I had been using Eusing Registry Cleaner. I had taken it off, and when I downloaded it again yesterday and used it, it repaired over 800 items.

You guys are wonderful!!Quote from: Hedonist on August 08, 2008, 05:40:06 PM

pb3046 - did you open the link - if so where's the info on your pc i.e. maker, model, ram etc?? Not important now but could be if you need more advice later.

Good luck.

Where is the free space shown?

Also, this shows the paging file on C:, thought that you moved it to D:

EDIT: I just checked my System Info, it also shows that same page file info, "C:\pagefile.sys"; MAYBE it simply means what it says - the location of pagefile.sys, rather than the location of the paging file(s). In my case, I've got a small paging file on C: and the main paging file on E:. Well, I thought the free space was indicated by the virtual memory because they are about the same. I just clicked on properties on the C disk and it says free space 1.87GB. Am I correct on that?

Oops! Me too, oops! I remembered uploading the information you had asked for but I checked another forum and I guess someone had asked for it there and that is where I UPLOADED it. So sorry.

I believe I did move the paging to D. I will double check when I can.

I suggest going into My Computer, Right Click your C Drive and go to Properties.
Then tell us the total capacity and free space.
Do the same with D Drive.Free space 1.87GB; ; used is 2.12GB, and total capacity is 3.99GB

D is 649MB available, 140MB used, capacity 789MB.

Before I did the Software Distribution deletion, free space was 100-200MB at varying times. This looks like a pretty hold computer for XP Professional.

Anyways, to free up as much space as you can, I would uninstall all software you don't use anymore (look through Add and Remove Programs in Control Panel).

Also, empty the Recycling Bin but CCleaner should have taken care of this.More RAM and a larger hard drive should keep XP from being so sluggish...it's grabbing free space for every task since there's not much RAM to begin with.
