Answer» My computer froze while shutting down on the blue screen that says MS Windows. I finally had to hold the power button down to SHUT it off. Now when I turn it on, it appears to be booting up windows, then returns to that shut down blue screen and hangs there. I have tried F8, tried to boot in safe mode, tried to boot with last known config that WORKED, etc. It always returns to that blue screen. Can anyone help?Start your computer back up and tap F8 to get into the advanced startup options. Here, choose "Disable automatic restarts on system failure" This should keep it from restarting. The blue screen error message should stay on the screen now. Write down that error and post back with it.
Have you made any hardware or software changes latley? Do you have your windows CD?Okay. I did that. It does the same thing. I get the black MS Windows XP start-up screen with the little lights going back and forth and then it goes black and then it goes to the blue screen that says MS Windows XP that appears right before shutting down, but it doesn't move after that. It just sits there. I don't think I have the original disks, but I'll look. You have to keep tapping F8 repeatedly as the computer is first TURNED on before windows starts to load. No, I meant I did tap F8 and get the choices. I checked it not to AUTOMATICALLY restart and what I wrote above is what happened.
I'm still looking for the original CD. It's a Dell Dimension3000.No original disk. Warranty expired in 2006. None of the options in the F8 window work. There is no error message or dialogue box. No matter which option I choose, it starts to boot and then moves that blue screen you see when shutting down.Your hard drive may be corrupted. Run hard drive diagnostics http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287I've saved the website, maybe I can use it at some point. Right now, I would if I could run anything. It won't let me do anything at all.those are bootable disks that dont require windows to runOh okay - I'll GIVE it a try. Thank you!
