Solve : Full Screen --> Black Screen?

Answer»

Hello everyone! My first post here.

First the HARDWARE:
 - OS windows pro
 - AMD 8 core processor FX8350
 - ASUS sabertooth motherboard 990FX R2.0
 - AMD Radeon HD 7900 series

The problem started about two weeks ago: Whenever i run a program in full screen mode (everything from the latest AAA-games to VLC media player) the monitor goes entirely blank. I can Alt+Tab out, or in media player double click to go back to windowed mode, and everything is normal again. Note that the black screen sometimes repeatedly goes away and then reappears, while other times it is permanent.

I had this problem earlier this year (spring) and didn't find a solution. I reinstalled windows, and the problem was gone for half a year. I suppose that eliminates the possibility of a hardware error?

 - I have recently air dusted the case, and it should be well-cooled
 - OS and central programs are run from a SSD, while games and media is stored on a HDD
 - Drivers would be my first GUESS, but Control Center did not find any of them outdated.

And a fun fact: The screen also goes black while VIEWING this youtube video in full screen:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIMLoLxmTDw&channel=CandRfun
And no - not because the video is just black, neither the mouse nor the bottom youtube bar shows. Only videos showing black, all other youtube videos are fine in full screen.

Any assistance is appreciated!Welcome to the forum.

What is control center - is that a third party program that downloads and installs drivers for you? There is no such thing as an outdated driver and you should never allow ANY program to install drivers for you.

Please open device manager. Are there any yellow or red symbols?

Please go to the AMD website and download and install the latest driver for your display adapter.

I'll wait to hear the answers before going any further. My mistake, it is device manager I have used to check for driver updates.
For some reason I thought it was called Control Center and not Control Panel (in the start menu)

I have installed the newest drivers from AMD and restarted the computer with no effect. Please boot to safe mode and see if the problem exists there

And you didn't answer my question - are there any yellow or red symbols in device manager? In the limited range of programs I could start in Safe Mode, the problem was still present.
No red or yellow symbols showing in device manager.Well, if the issue persists in safe mode it is likely a hardware issue since only the generic drivers and no 3rd party apps are loaded. If you have another display adapter you can try, that would be my recommendation.Found the solution

After doing some random testing around the blank screen, it turns out my Fujitsu 27" monitor was the problem.

The monitor has some general "modes" for color and contrast. When in "game" mode, full screen, and with dark screen colors or too low brightness the monitor for some bizarre reason chooses to show a blank / completely dark screen. So I basically choose another mode and mess around with the colors and brightness to get the same visuals but with everything working as intended.

Very strange function. Fujitsu is definitely no longer an option for my next monitor.

Thank you ALLAN for your attention!Glad you got it sorted out. Thanks for letting us know.
