Solve : Going from Windows8.1 to XP? |
|
Answer» I have a new Lenovo G500 that came with Windows8, now upgraded to 8.1. I don't like it, and would like to install Windows 7. I imagine if it will run Windows 8 it will run 7 without any problems. What's the best way to buy it? I would like to receive a disk as opposed to just downloading it, and I'm not super-computer savvy, but can load it from a CD. Can I save the 8.1 system to a CD or something in case I want to use it later? I'm used to XP, and feel I can learn 7 faster than I can learn 8. TIA.1st thing i would do is visit the manuf. site and make SURE the PC has Win7 drivers for EVERYTHING...especially if it's a laptop... PS. If you are a registered student at University MS offers substantial discounts on all their products so check into that as well... GOOD SUGGESTION Patio !!!!! I bought Windows XP Pro when in college through a website called Gradware.com 12 years ago and got this OS for just $40. I also got Microsoft Visual Studio .Net 2002 edition for $99.99 vs the $500 price tag I think it was without student discount. Just had to send them a copy of my drivers license and documentation proving that I was a college student. It's one of the best kept secrets out there...but by all means i suggest it whenever it may apply...Well, it's been many moons since I was a student (think slide RULES), so that's out. Not sure what I do when I check to see if the laptop has W7 drivers. What do I look for? And.....any suggestions on reliable vendors? The manufacturer's website. Here is the appropriate page for that model on Lenovo's website. You'd have to install all the Windows 7 Drivers after installing Windows 7 on the machine. (with the exception of the BIOS FILE)Quote from: ah100 on March 06, 2014, 09:11:00 PM Not sure what I do when I check to see if the laptop has W7 drivers. What do I look for?OPEN Device Manager and look for any yellow triangles with ! in them. That indicates the device is not working properly and most likely needs a valid driver from the manufacturer (for that device). Quote from: ah100 on March 05, 2014, 04:00:25 PM Can I save the 8.1 system to a CD or something in case I want to use it later?Yes, you can create a drive image that can be used to restore the system back to Windows 8.1. One of the tools available for that is Macrium Reflect FREE Edition. Just noticed the Topic Title stated XP...not Win7 ...is that what you plan on doin ?Should be W8.1 to W7OK...then all our advice above is current... Thanx for clarifying it. |
