Answer» I'm running Windows XP Professional on my home computer. I'm getting a message that says its "skipping auto check" and the computer logs off. I ran the Windows RECOVERY but I don't know what to type at the dos prompt. I really do not want to lose everything I have on my computer by reinstalling Windows. Can anyone help me?This sounds very much like a partition table boot error, have you by any chance been using partition magic or the NEWER Symantec version? and mabye uninstalled it or something went wrong. PLEASE BACKUP ANYTHING IMPORTANT BEFORE USING THIS TOOL some instructions from here:- http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/0/b0316214f90fadd888256e9f00607ba5?OpenDocument
you can download this utility from the Symantec FTP site.
BootExecute.exe (from the RUN it now button) from here :- http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/0/b0316214f90fadd888256e9f00607ba5?OpenDocument The problem is I can't get on my computer to do anything. Windows will start to load, I will get my BACKGROUND photo and then it will ask me to sign on - I hit ok, but nothing happens. I hit options and the only option is to sign off. That's as far as I can get. I put in my disk to recover, but as I said I don't know what to type to get windows to fully load. When it starts to load I get the "skipping auto check" message and the login screen again :-?pls tell me the reseant changes u made to ur system... if u want to boot frm cd u need to change the boot sequence in biosboot frm cd and choos the repair option not recovery console the second one
