Answer» Hi there,
My laptop has xp home edition installed on it, my children have done something - not sure what, but now when it boots up it shows the setup screen for xp professional as though it is part way through installing this version of xp
If I switch off and restart it will load windows home edition
If I start up in safe mode it GIVES me the choice to load xp home edition or to load xp professional SET up - it selects the xp professional setup as default option
how can I sort this so it just starts with xp home edition and loads windows normally?
thanks Gordon Well, You can just hide the 'XP Pro setup' option. Right-click on 'My Computer'; select 'Properties'; go to 'Advanced' tab; click 'Startup and recovery' settings; select Your XP Home as default operating system in drop-down menu and clear the checkbox prompting for 'Time to display list of operating systems', then CONFIRM changes. The easiest thing for you to do is to partition, format and re-install Windows ME, unless you want a dual OS harddrive. You could do a system restore, thats if you havent formatted the harddrive before, then you wont have any restore points. You could also do a recovery. It really depends on what they have done and what you want to try and keep. Good luckyou can also try changing the boot.ini file, you can delete one of the partitions that your not using. But make sure you know what you're doing, you could mess up both partitionsWhat the heck does WinME have to do with his issues here ? ?Sorry about that, meant to put Home edition

Start with the advice from "Archer". That will set your default boot to the Windows Home Edition operating system. That's all well and good, but why would he want to hide it if he doesn't want it on there at all.. That's just taking up unnecessary SPACE.

kind of like a windows ME install might...nalee start looking at the thread dates...you're necromancing a bit much.My fault, so why re-post it after 6 days if it still doesn't have an answer. I can see re-posting old ones that have an answer for helping others with the same problems, but why re-post with unresolved issued? Just curious. One more thing, what constitutes an old thread? Meaning whats the cutoff time when it becomes old and shouldn't be posted toGenerally if the OP has not returned in 90 days it's usually a dead issue...good to know, thanks for the infoYepper...
