Solve : Having Problems with My Hp Laptop Hoping Someone can help!?

Answer»

Hi Forgive if I'm posting in the wrong place...I'm New to the forum and have a question..
I have a laptop its not that old about 3 years old... I have been having problems with it turning off while I am using it, it turns right back on by itself after with a black screen that says "window error recovery" I contacted HP they had me do a "Power Drain" they also had me turn off my laptop and then turn it back on and press f10 repeatedly to get to the BIOS. I'm not sure if this worked since I just did this a few mins ago... But am hoping if anyone can help with anything else I can do if these steps didn't work.
Thanks in Advance Can you provide some more detail on this "Power Drain" procedure?  Exactly what did they have you do?  And, what did they have you do in the BIOS screens?

Did you computer have Vista on it when new, or was that an upgrade? Thanks you for your reply, Well with the Power Drain they had me take out the Battery and disconnect the laptop from all power supply and press and hold the power button for 30 sec. after they told me to put everything back and turn on and press f10 repeatedly and I did that and a BIOS screen came out, and it said do you want to exit and save all the changes(I had not changed anything at this point) but, since the HP man told me I didn't need to do anything just exit after getting to that BIOS page... He said my problem would be fixed once I reached that stage, So far the Laptop has not turned off on me yet... This is all I have done, I also have Driver Detective and that did a few updates on my laptop as well but it still turned off after those updates so that didn't help.... Get rid of Driver Detective...you are asking for problems. Are you for really I just paid 40 buck on that thing,  Did they rip me off?? Quote from: patio on April 22, 2009, 11:03:25 AM

OK I just went to do something I should have done before getting this driver detective thing!!!! I read the reviews ugh!!!! they TOTALLY ripped me off didn't they? so now what do I do remove it from my laptop asap?? please help I don't want my laptop to crash because of this software, like some of those people on the reviews.... All the stuff I did to my laptop didn't work  It just turn off by itself again and restarted itself... I'm so lost I have no IDEA what it could be... the FANS seem to start to work right before it does this could it be over heating?Heat could be a problem. Look closely into your fan opening; you may need a flash light.  Do see dust in there?  A three YEAR old laptop, if never cleaned inside, is bound to have accumulated some dust.  There are numerous references on CLEANING a laptop.  See: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=cleaning+laptop+fan&btnG=Google+Search&aq=2&oq=cleaning+laptop+&fp=_rpp-4zAm3I .  I won't recommend any specific one since I haven't actually removed a laptop keyboard to clean components under the keyboard.  But, keyboard removal seems to be the commonly recommended approach.  If you don't want to try this yourself, perhaps you should search for a computer repair shop in your area.
