Answer» Okay.... so we've hit another ISSUE..... We're attempting to just wipe the os off.... and install a new.. or well.... going with the xp again... just starting over. Unfortunately.... have no clue how to do that while the operating SYSTEM wont boot.... the hard drive is detected through bios but isnt in xp.... How can we wipe the os to even begin installing the new?Boot from the OS cd (change bios to boot from cdrom first) then follow the on-screen prompts. Boot from the OS cd (change bios to boot from cdrom first) then follow the on-screen prompts.Depending on how old the computer is...or the manufacturer and model number...sometimes the manufacturer of the PC includes a recovery PARTITION so you can restore your computer to its factory settings. Do you KNOW if the manufacturer has provided this partition on your hard drive? Can you supply us with the manufacturer and model number? I'll be more than happy to look into it for you to see if this option is available on your computer...Go into BIOS setup and move over to BOOT or BOOT ORDER. You want to change your CD drive to be the first boot device. Press the plus and minus keys to move your devices up and down in the boot order. Place your XP CD in your master CD drive. Now exit BIOS and save changes. You will see a blue screen that will guide you through setup. Make sure you follow this order: 1.Delete partitions 2. Create a partition 3. Format your partition The first thing you want to do after an install is make sure all of your drivers loaded. To do this click start then run and type in devmgmt.msc. This will take you to device manager. If you see any yellow or red "?" or "!" there, you will need a driver for that device. To save yourself a lot of headaches, find the drivers for your machine before you do the wipe. Go to your computer manufacturers website and look to see if they have a drivers download page. Download these and save them to a disk. Now if your drivers didnt load you will have them on a handy CD. The next thing you should do, after the wipe, is go to microsoft update and get all of the updates for your machine. |
