Alright, to explain the problem, it isn't what I would consider a computer-ending flaw. It's annoying as h**l, and does tend to make doing anything extremely difficult. But doing things by definition of functioning, it accomplishes that.

Where it is falling short is every so often and, seemingly randomly, my computer will have the monitor 'cut off' and it will then either reset itself or it'll just whine that there's no signal even after reconnected a few times, to the point the only solution IS a improper restart. [[Which before I reformatted in hopes of FIXING this problem, it doing this about 52x consecutively caused incredible amounts of damage.]]

Just for the record...
- No the monitor's power button isn't stuck.
- Yes, I tried a different monitor.
- I have tried a different and new Video Card, but... the problem PREVAILS.
- It does not strike up any flags on anti-virus software; I tried Cyber-Defender.
- I did try a reformat, which I suspect even a worm, virus, or trojan would be destroyed from. The problem Prevails even now.
- Reading similar problems I tried double checking all connecting cords to the PC and monitor; again. But... yeah, same issue.
- I downloaded my video driver today after reformatting from NVIDIA, so it's most likely the newest one as well.

[[If any of those seem insulting, I apologise. I was asked some questions I felt really were unnecessary when I first went to others for help. The worst one being, "Is it plugged in?"]]

The cords on each monitor have been different and they have always been securely fastened to the PC; everything's in visibly proper and working order.

I'd really like help with this, because I'm already upset at losing so much information just from the reformat failing. And I want to know if I can avoid having to tighten my budget further by going to a repair specialist who; would likely at this point tell me "I need a new PC."

THANKS :>Since you have told us absolutely nothing about the computer and its HARDWARE, I doubt if we can offer anything more than the notion that it's probably hardware related. And you might well need a new PC.
See What information should I provide?

Tip: The monitor should not be disconnected or connected to computer while power is on (either monitor or computer). Neither should a PS/2 keyboard or mouse. Or anything to the parallel or serial port. You may, however, unplug or plug to a USB port while power is on (but Safely Eject USB external disks or flash drives before unplugging them to prevent data loss).

What do you mean by "reset itself"? Does the computer automatically reboot and attempt to restart Windows?

When "it'll just whine that there's no signal", has Windows shutdown and the computer restarted? The flash sequence of the LEDs on the keyboard, computer tower (power, hard drive activity), floppy drive and CD-ROM drives may answer this.

How old is the computer? Has the dust inside the computer ever been cleaned out? The thermal paste between processor and heatsink ever been refreshed? * Microsoft XP Pro.
* I already said this.
* There isn't a manufacturer, it's a custom built PC.
* Not having a problem with any noted software, or object. It seems largely as though the problems are unprovoked.
* Already mentioned I updated the drivers.
* When did the issue start occurring? <-- Not certain, it's been happening for a while now, it just wasn't ever this bad.

Computer is about four years old, currently using Nvidia GeForce4 MX 4000 for the video card. The audio driver stopped working a long while ago; so I do not have one of those at the moment.If it's a custom build, then please let us know...

1. Motherboard brand and model
2. CPU type and speed
3. Amount and brand and type of RAM
4. Number, type(s) and size(s) of HDDs & optical drives.
5. Brand and power rating of PSU
6. Brand and model of DISPLAY card.
7. Any recent (or not so recent?) hardware changes such as display card, cpu, extra hard drive etc (Maybe adding to power drain & pushing the PSU over the edge)
8. If you have disturbed items within the case (see next item)
9 If you have checked that RAM, power connectors, CPU, disk drive data and power cables are all connected and/or seated correctly, and CPU fan is working OK and the heatsink is not clogged with dust or fluff.
10. What you mean by your audio driver stopping working. Is it the sound chip or card?
11. Do you see any entries in the Event Log that might be indicative?

Without this information, we will be going by guesswork, and maybe even then, but my feeling is failing PSU or RAM, if checks in item (9) are all OK
