Originally thought I had a sudden MOUSE (?) problem on my main DESKTOP. Now it seems the mouse is functioning correctly, but there is a software setup problem which I may have accidently gotten myself into. Calling now from wife's laptop.

The mouse seems to function correctly with all movement functions. It functions ok LEFT click to any TITLE, action "word", or ICON. It functions ok RIGHT click for any "dropdown". The batteries are fresh, changed already twice. Mouse was interchanged with ANOTHER - the problem stays with either. Searching my CONTROL PANEL has so far let me find any item regarding entering data into "boxed" areas.

The problem is that if I LEFT click on any box requiring me to enter an ID or PASSWORD (bank, email, Skype, insurance, etc.), I no longer GET the flashing CURSOR (vertical line) in that box, which prevents me from typing anything into that box. On some sites (my email) the border of the box also turns red when I LEFT click on that box, but no cursor appears and I am unable to enter numbers or letters. Therefore my desktop is effectively dead in the water since anything important requires entering ID and PASSWORD.
