Answer» I currently have DirectX 9.0b but I can't install 9.0c. When I checked the file version #'s of my 9.0b .dll files which were supposed to be 4.09.0000.0902, I found that it was a 5.01.2600.2082
Does this mean that I have an invalid DirectX?
How do I fix it and how can I install DirectX 9.0c?Start > Run Enter dxdiag and click ok Click the System tab Under System Information, look at the DirectX Version
If it says DirectX 9.0c then you ALREADY have it installed. POSSIBLY Windows Update automatically downloaded and installed it.I've already done that and the version states that I still have 9.0b even after I tried to manually install 9.0c.Try going to the Windows Update site and see if it offers to update your system's DirectX.
If you have not updated to service pack 2 you will have to choose that option first.

Thanks for the help. But I finished updating windows and dxdiag still shows 9.0b. I tried reinstalling 9.0c yet it still didn't work. I still have 9.0b. What can I do?Two questions, please:
Why do you NEED DirectX 9.0c (that is, what is WRONG with 9.0b)?
Do you now have the Windows XP service pack 2 installed?
If you are concerned that DirectX is not working, try opening the dxdiag program again and clicking the buttons to run all the TESTS. If dxdiag does not find a problem, it's all good.
