Solve : Help needed with 'Autoruns' entries!??

Answer»

Hello Forum Guys!

Similar to 'Malware Fighting', why don't you come up with an "Exclusive" section to cater to those who need help with "Autoruns" utility of Microsoft!?

Anyways, my Autoruns scan depict multiple entries with path showing up as "File not found", yet these are checked.

Can I safely disable these? & what about drivers? Do all of these need to be started up at the BOOT to ensure a smooth functioning?(Under options::Hide Windows entries is checked, so don't worry!)

I wish to SEE 'HijackThis' kind of tool, where users can post their 'Autoruns' log with the tool advising them on which to retain & the rest to discard.

Help & input will be sincerely appreciated.Uncheck the "files not found". If there's no problem, DELETE the entries. Leave the drivers alone.Hello Allan!

Under the "Drivers" section as well, there are about 5-6 entries, with 'Image Path' showing up as -File not found!?

Do I uncheck these as well?

I swear, Autoruns do depict the UGLY face of "Windows regime" where each publisher vie to add a Start-up entry or service right at the system boot , without paying a heed to Computer's performance.

Perhaps, that's the BEST way to raise the bar for System's threshold like 4GB RAM; after 3 YEARS make it 8GB ...& so on!

Well planned game from lobbists to spin MONEY....O dear honey! Go ahead and uncheck them and see what happens. Worst case, if something isn't working properly you can always add them back. I assure you, the system will still boot regardless.Your safest option....

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:

Attach the file to your next reply.

Also, there are plenty of sites, where you can check startup entries:

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
Sounds more like a Windows rant to me...other than a real issue...
After all i'd have figured out by now how to control my startup items by now.Hello Broni!

Please find the same as attached.

Iam particularly interested in the 'Drivers' section. Why do anything associated with say HP & Conexant have to initiated at the boot?

Can't I make my Windows trimmed?(ofcourse, without posing any issues! )

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]It doesn't look like a full log.
Please, retry.Don't be surprised if I tell you that Iam running my WinXP(SP3) machine without any Malware protection software!

That's the full-log.Just for surety, take an ANOTHER look.

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]Honestly, this is the weirdest Autoruns log, I've ever seen.
You have just one startup and barely anything else running.
I don't see anything, what could be disabled.

Also, running your computer without any protection is really bad idea.Quote from: Saurabhdua on August 21, 2010, 02:49:30 AM

That would be dumb and a waste of forum space. Especially since your the only one that appears to care.

Probably.

Yes. They do. Here's an idea, disable them and complain about your nonbootable system that now crashes to a UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME blue screen, because you decided that the NTFS driver was, as you say "bloat".

If you don't know how to use autoruns, you shouldn't be using it.

Hello Broni & BC(Got your point!)

My PC is really mine. Pen-drives & CDs are used very rarely, so no chance of external infection through any of these media.

I know & am confident of my surfing habits(unless someone decide to ditch me at this forum by posting a venomous link! )

Lastly, by setting my DNS(here is the KEY!) to that of GOOGLE's Public DNS-8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4, I ensure "Minimum Latency" & ofcourse, "Maximum protection" from fake & malware-infested websites.

Cannot STUFF my 2002 dated PC(Pentium 4) with every kind of sine qua non. Have learnt to keep my system lean & mean. How's that? All I can say....Good luck with that...Quote

This is pure Bunk...
