Solve : Help needed with windows 7 laptop and formating?

Answer»

Hi
I'm trying to help out my sister-in-law with her laptop. She got a packard bell easynote lx86 with an intel i5 cpu , 6gb ram and a 700gb hd that's running windows 7 home prem oa 64 bit ( it's got 'acer group' underneath it ).
She's had a big change in circumstances and what she wants is for me to format/erase it and start again so her daughters can use it. I've got the prod id and the prod key on the bottom of the machine but - there's no recovery partition on the hard DRIVE and theres no disc's for it.

So what I need to know is can I make an installation or recovery disc from the laptop and then whats the best tool to use to format the hard drive ? I've got a copy of secure erase but it uses floppies and the laptop doesn't have a floppy drive.

Thanks , adamIf it's new enough to have an i5 in it order the recovery DVD from the manuf. for a minimal COST +shipping...Hi

This is further to the above so hopefully this will be understandable.

This is to do with the packard bell easynote laptop that has windows 7 64bit on at the moment now this is where it get's abit compicated , there's a sticker stuck underneath for windows7 home prem OA for ACER Group and it's key , but after looking at the profile and running a key finder on the laptop it's come up with a different set-up for windows 7 home prem OEM X15-37379 64bit with a different key.

What I need to know is - I've got a downloaded copy of windows 7 home prem 64bit on disc but will either of the keys I've got work with it , or where can I find an OEM copy to use with the key/s ?.

I'm trying to help my sister-in-law out , she's now living in this country after loosing her husband in belgium and she's asked me to wipe her laptop and reinstall windows 7 so her KIDS can use it as they grow up so doesn't want to spend alot.

One would expect that the product key will work on a Windows n7 DVD from a different source. NOT TRUE.
It may work that way once or twice, but not always. The Home Premium version of Windows 7 is good enough for basic use. Some places now have it on sale.

Personally, I would recommend buying a new copy of Windows 7 only if the maker of the laptop does not have a replacement available.Quote
OEM X15-37379 64bit with a different key.
Windows PID - Product Identification. Dowload SIW old Home Edition here then install and run. Go to Licenses and check your Windows Product Key from there. Another alternative is Speccy.
He ran a keyfinder already and they don't match...

Somehow i don't think we're getting the full story...YES, the sticker product key is what is needed. Adam posted : OEM X15-37379 64bit with a different key. Which is not a Product key but a PID for OEM for preinstalled windows.

Taken from a HP laptop using SIW. I have posted a thread (here) regarding this HP laptop's sticker key not matching the key finder license of SIW and speccy (same result). I guess I will never find out which is which unless I've decided to reinstall or somehow used the created recovery discs on another hard drive using this laptop.
Hi

Obviously I didn't make it clear

Sister-in-law couldn't say where the laptop came from or if it was new at the time - husband sorted it out and he's nolonger with us so can't ask .

The sticker on the bottom of the laptop say's -

Windows 7 home prem OA
Acer Group CO.7P201.001
PRODUCT KEY , PMQPH-33HV3-WHRVY-MRDWX-_____
X16-96072

including a couple of barcodes that's how it looks

Here's the result of the key finder , this is on the laptop at the moment - don't know why or when it was changed.

Windows 7 Home Premium
Product Part No.: X15-37379
Installed from 'OEM' media.
Product ID: 00359-OEM-8992687-00006 match to CD Key data
CD Key: VQB3X-Q3KP8-WJ2H8-R6B6D-_____
Computer Name: GEBRUIKER-PC

Windows Information
Windows 7 Home Premium

So , like I said she only want's it the kids , which would be the best way to go. I've got a downloaded copy of windows 7 home premium on a disc , or do I need some other TYPE of home prem ?

Thanks , Adam

Hi

Just to let you know , have now got this sorted. Used killdsic to format and my downloaded windows 7 disc with the key that it was running with before.

Now up and running - for now
