Solve : Help!! Transfering files from a windows 97 to a windows xp?

Answer»

HI! I have a windows 97 laptop that I am trying to transfer files from to my new windows xp computer. I have a usb port on the laptop, but the memory stick is not recognized - it says it needs a driver??? Is there a way to connect the two computers so I can transfer the files (I don;t know if I can create a computer NETWORK either - I have a dial-up connection) Thanks for your help! I ASSUME you mean Windows 98. According to Google, Windows 97 was what 98 was going to be called but it ended up being released in 1998 so it's called Windows 98.

The reason your memory stick is not working is because you need a driver.
Please can you tell us what brand and model your memory stick is.OK - I have two memory sticks - one is called Gizmo!JR. by Crucial
and the other is USB2.0 DataTraveler by Kingston TechnologyOk. I'm to busy to do this now but on your 98, go to the Crucial and Kingston Technology websites and locate the exact model of your memory sticks and download the driver.

Someone else would have to assist you from there, SORRY. Very late here Thanks - I'll TRY that!! Another option would be to grab one of these :

This will allow you to remove the laptop drive and hook it up to an IDE CABLE in the desktop. You can then view copy or transfer over what you need.

2.5" HDD to IDE connector. Available at most computer stores for about 10 bucks...
