Solve : HELP!  TROUBLE W/BURNING MUSIC CD'S....?

Answer»

I recently upgraded my OS from WindowsME to Windows XP. I have tried to burn some music cd's with Nero & Easy CD Creator on my cdrw but it just doesn't work [smiley=cry.gif]....

Any suggestions will help and thank you so very much!the first QUESTION is have you updated your burning software? which versions are you running. cd creator 5 will not run on xp without patches. i'm sure earlier versions won't run at all.Upgrading a current OS to another is risky. Upgrading WinME to WinXP is asking for problems!
Did you actually upgrade or did you format and then install XP?
What versions of Nero and EasyCD are you using? Off the top of my head, I believe that Easy CD Creator 5.3.5 and Nero 6.6.0.5 are the minimum requirements for XP compatibility and functionality.Pardon my ignorance here, but I thought XP came out after ME and is newer. At least, according to this page, "Combines Windows NT/2000 professional series with the Windows 98 and ME consumer series into a single operating system." Windows ME has to be out already to be integrated, right?

Sorry if I'm just confused, but I'm pretty sure a couple of my computers are upgraded from ME. No wait, that one got formatted because of a virus. Anyhoo... am I misunderstanding you?
I agree Anayway, have you tried updating your drivers for the burner? Windows Updates?

Actually, I didn't format, just installed XP. Nero was already installed on the WindowsME before I installed XP.Quote

Yes, I have tried updating the drivers or are there other drivers I can download for a CD Writer IDE 1610 (STANDARD) :-?Sorry for any confusion! By current OS, I meant the already installed OS.

It's not a good IDEA to upgrade as many remnants and any problems of the former OS are left behind and these have a nasty habit of coming back in the future and biting you! Anyone who sets up systems on a regular basis will tell you that a fresh installation is the wisest course to choose.
As a slight aside, an upgrade CD can be used to perform a full installation from scratch without an OS being present; the XP installation routine will merely ask you to insert a previous OS installation CD (Win98, ME etc) to check for previous ownership.

As for CD drivers, these cannot really be upgraded. CD and DvD burners are only burners if the correct software is installed to utilise them. Look for any useable updates to Nero and Roxio and then uninstall both. REBOOT and try the INBUILT XP CD burning application. You won't be able to burn music CDs with this but for now, we just want to see what's happening.
If that works OK, reinstall Nero (Do not install InCD!) and apply the updates.Try out your burner.
If all is well, and if you think you need it, install EasyCD, apply the updates and test.
