|
Answer» i have just completed scans with eset , combofix and rootrepeal and during them i seen a lot of old sites and files going back from now to a year ago or longer that i deleted i went into all the files in " my computer " and cannot find them Nice one Harry. I put you wrong on the MBR it should have read MFT. ccleaner settings are set MBR = Master Boot Record ( i only know about the old 45 rpm records ) MFT = Master File Table ( i have a table in the garage to file on ) HDD = Hard Disk Drive ( are'nt they in the wheels of my car ) Dir = Directory ( my phone directory ) Harry you've gotten me cornfused once again... If the files were deleted why are you looking for them ? ? If your goal is a fresh start why not just backup what you need..wipe the partition ...and do a clean install ? ?Hello Patio..and thank you again for all your help with my hard disk. I am viewing this forum and learning many things. The post question on this topic was how to get rid of old files that you have deleted..Is thwere any way to retrieve files from, like a year ago, pictures that were taken away etc.? Is there any free-ware from download .com or any other place that a person could utilize to find things that they had on the hard disk a year ago? many thanks for any information! Deleting files is apt to cause more harm then good. Only reason you'd want to delete, say, cookies or cached web pages is if you found a mistress in lady jpeg.Nothing wrong with a wipe and clean install every now and then... I do it about 3-4 times a year myself. Quote from: patio on March 04, 2010, 05:39:42 AM Nothing wrong with a wipe and clean install every now and then...Sorry - I've never understood people who say or do that. I've NEVER reinstalled an OS on any system in 25 years unless I wanted to upgrade to a new OS and do a clean install.i agree with allan , i see no reason to do a reinstall unless it is needed , i just want to get into the pc to do a clean out of stuff i know i do not have any more and old files i put into the pc and deleted long ago , i know not to take stuff out that i do not know about Then don't do it...and learn to live with the old file remnants you are chasing. You cannot have it both ways...OMG patio don't give off it's not like you Not giving up... i just see no other efficient way to remove random ghosts and remnants on a machine other than a wipe and clean install... You could run file cleaners til your blue in the FACE and still manage to find them. BTW I have no problem with the view that a re-install is not neccessary...to each his own. It's just what i would do...nothing more...nothing less. |
