hi!

i have an emachines that i bought just a month ago, and yesterday it told me to SHUT down so i did, and when i turned it BACK on, i could log on but all i could see is my desktop wallpaper and my mouse, and nothing else. no desktop icons or menu bar. can somebody please help me with this situation?

petegarett714......Why did it tell you to shutdown?   What were you doing just before this happened ?
Have you tried rebooting into safe mode ?
Is this a new pc ?
Have you contacted Emachines ?
Do you have a good anti-virus program installed ?
Which operating system are you using ?

i was just surfing the internet and downloading stuff when windows said that an error occurred and windows had to shut down. and i dont know how to reboot it in safemode. its a new emachines, windows xp and the virus protection was working fine when it was last working.

peteTo go into safemode take the following steps:

1. Before Windows is loading, press F8.
2. Select safe mode from the list.

is this a common problem? STARTING a computer and only the mouse and desktop wallpaper showing but no icons, menu bar, nothing?hold down the f8 key on boot and chose the last goood config.....sounds like ie is damaged........
