Answer» have this windows xp pro, that wont start up. It is a pentium 4 1.7gh. As soon as i power it up it gives me one beep. and the follwing appear on the screen. "ALASKA' WWW. ALASKA.COM. I am not certain if that is the brand of the hard DRIVE. It just freezees there and wont move. i power off/on and the same thing it does. I can see the green light from the floopy drive just stays on. I dont know if this has anything to do with the power supply. Did you check to see if there is a disk in the floppy drive?there is no foppy disk in the drive. i have CHECKED an there is non. Thanks for ur help AlliMore info is always needed. What happened prior to this? Other problems? Legal XP Pro? Make, wattage and age of the PSU? Recent power surges? How OLD is the machine? Are you the only user? Can you boot with a WIN98SE floppy disk? Can it boot from a bootable CD? Etc.?HI TECHS, Thanks to all those who assisted me with ideas, suggestions, and recommendation. I am back on track and i am FEELING so happy. I worked all dayon this pc, and almost gave up, but it was worth the try. I took ouit all the drives and data cables and seated them back, powerd up the computer and nothing happend, so i took off back all data cables, but forgot toseat back the data cable on the cd-rom drive and i booted up and wow to my surprise that was it. i hit the jackpot. I powerd off and replaced back the data cable to the cd-rom drive, but again it did not boot up, i then knew that my problem was the cd-rom drive. I then took out the cd rom completely and found it was gamaged.. Back to nrmal Thanks once again Alli |
