Answer» hi...i am using a friends computer. i can't tell you anything about it, except its an AMD and a laptop and it has Internet Explorer, because i can't get to Start or Control Panel or anything LIKE that because i put it in Hibernate mode last night and ever since then the bar on the bottom of the screen won't come up. when i run the cursor down there it shows the hourglass. i tried turning the computer off, and it just does the Hibernate thing again. also the mute button on the top won't turn off now. i do,however, have access to internet, etc. i would appreciate any help at all. thanks. What Operating System?
Can you try a System Restore?hello OLD man- thanks for replying and, how do i put this...i don't know and i don't know. i am not completly useless, however ...i don't know. but i can follow directions like crazy. All righty.
First, can you hold both the Windows Key and the Pause/Break key together. +
Once you do that, a window should pop up.
Can you find what your Operating System is. (Windows XP / Windows Vista / ect,,,)ok. did the buttons and nothing happened. did it again. same. so i remembered another site i VISITED trying to get help, the microsoft site, and it had determined my OS for me. went back to find it. it's XP, and also if it matters Internet Ex. 7Ok, Windows XP.
Navigate to Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore.
In the System Restore Menu, select Restore my computer to an earlier time and click Next and follow the steps to restore your Windows to a date before the problem started occurring. That's my problem though... i don't know how to get to Start except from the bar at the bottom of the screen that won't come up. Is there another way to get to it?Can you make a shortcut on the desktop that goes here: %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Right Click the Desktop, go to New and click Shortcut. Paste the above code in there and then press Next. There should already be a name there and press Finish.
Does that WORK?It worked!!! Thank you, merci and gracias por todo!! How very kind of all that offer assistance on this website, and for me, especially, "old man." thanks. pammieNo problem, Glad I could help.
