Answer» Hi, i have a laptop with 70GB of storage space on it, but when i LOOK at all the folders in turn to see how big they are it only comes up with about 30GB of actual files. is there a way i can look to see what space is actually being used by what?
My laptop is a IBM Thinkpad T60 running Xp Pro - I know there is a hidden rescue partition and this might be where my extra space is going but 40GB?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.Your post doesn't make much sense. You have a 70 Gig HD and you have 30 Gig of files on it. Is that right? So, what exactly is the question?
If you go to My Computer, how much free space is on your HD? If you right click on the drive and select Properties, what do you see? This Question doesn't really make anying sense, Can you repharse it pleaseThat response doesn't make any sense. Remember to feed the Parrot's....The enviornment is counting on you.Polly want a repharse?appology for the poor wording.
When i check the properties of C:\ says used 68.4GB out of 70GB but when i check the size of every folder in the directory it only represents about 30GB of actual storage space. I can't understand where the remaining 40GBs has gone. You also have hidden system files, swap files, an unknown amount for the hidden partition, etc. I think properties message is correct. Malware can also replicate files needlessly. What are you using for protection? You may also want to USE CCleaner to clear up the debris. The 30GB stated inclues about 3GB for Hyberfile.sys and the swapfile.
i've used crap cleaner and it says i've got 300MB of stuff but thats okay.
If my laptop is backing up my hard disk for future retrieval - where will the data be STORED?Well you didn't answer the questions, did you?
The recovery partition, if present only holds the OPERATING system, etc. as when the computer was new. It doesn't continue to grow and add things you have loaded.Don't forget that System Restore takes up a decent chunk of space! And so do the Windows hotfixes (ALTHOUGH not as big of a chunk).
