   I was wondering if there is a way to block the feature of shutdown, and log off on windows XP? I only want the icons on the start bar taken away though. Thanks!!You'll want to use Group Policy to do this.  Simply go to: Start > Run...  Type gpedit.msc and click OK.  On the left side, go to User CONFIGURATION > Administrative TEMPLATES > Start Menu and Taskbars.  You'll then be given a long list of settings.  First, look for Remove Log Off on the Start Menu.  Double-click on it, click on Enable, and then click on OK.  You'll then want to do the same for Remove Shut Down on the Start Menu.  And you should be set.  You don't even have to restart.When I did that i got a message saying that it couldn't be found and that I should check to see if I typed it right. I have no clue on what you mean by the group policy and so could you help me?What version of Windows are you using?Unfortunately, I have to leave in about five minutes, but check out this link and see if it helps you out at all...

I'll check in with you again ASAP to see if you still need help and I'll try to PROVIDE further assistance.The Microsoft ARTICLE says that in order to use a Group Policy you need to have Windows XP Professional...I don't have professional I only have regualar XP...is there something I'm misssing maybe? Because when I click on the add stand along thing the group policy isn't listed there...  .

Look at the picture I added under applies too...Well, darn, there goes that idea.  As far as I know, there is no Group Policy for Home Edition (that's what you have, right?).  It's a long shot, but you can try opening your Control Panel and going to Taskbar And Start Menu.  Click on the Start Menu tab then go to Customize and see if you can find any options that let you disable Log Off and Shut Down.  I don't believe Professional has it (mine doesn't), but I know that some versions of Windows do.  In the meantime, I'll see if I can find any other suggestions.

There's a way to edit your registry to get rid of the options, but the drawback is that it DISABLES the commands so that you can't even shut down from the Task Manager.
