Solve : homegroup Computer Name?

Answer»

Hello,  I hope I can explain the ISSUE.  I have 2 Computers that I had to re-install the Operating System on (Windows 7 Home 32Bit). First a Gateway, Then just recently my Sony Vaio.  Both were on my HomeGroup. My Gateway Computer name was STEVE-GW.  Now it is Steve-GW.  After installing Windows on my Sony, I created a new Homegroup on my GW and tried to join with my Sony.  My Sony is still recognizing the OLD GW Computer Name of STEVE-GW.  I tried to change the Computer Name on the Gateway back to STEVE-GW, but was unsuccessful.  Why is my Sony still recognizing my old Gateway Computer Name?  Where on the Sony is the Gateway Name Stored?  Can I change it is the Registry?  Thanks, Steve   Hello Steve! If you only have two computers, why don't you just unjoin the home group and start over??

[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]Hi Gary,  I have gone through that proceedure a couple of times on both machines.  I did check the Registry and deleted the STEVE-GW and change two other
entries to Steve-GW.  Still can't get them to connect.  The Gateway shows up in my Network on the Sony, but no luck connecting.  Thanks for replying.  SteveTry proper file sharing instead of homegroup? PERSONALLY homegroup drives me mad...

If you want to change the computer name click start, right-click on Computer and choose Properties. Then choose Change SETTINGS on the right hand side, yellow and blue shield next to it. I assume you can CONTINUE from there. Quote
