Answer» Hello
We have three computers in our house, all three are HP and have Windows XP, one is a Pentium 4 and the other two are Pentium D. All three have Nortons 2007 antivirus program. The PROBLEM is that no matter how often I try to block programs like Windows/MSN Messenger and Live Messenger on the parental control section of Nortons, my children are still able to log in. Its very frustrating because I want them to get on with their homework but they are so sneaky and are still able to log on.
Can anyone suggest any other ways to block these programs.
Thank you.Can you set a password for norton? If you can, set the FIREWALL to black communications to/from msn messenger and then set a password that your kids can't guess, like "wb289r#jfn&[emailprotected]". If you don't have the norton firewall with the antivirus, make windows firewall block access for msn messenger by going to the network connection properties. Open Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties -> ADVANCED Tab -> Windows Firewall Settings -> Exceptions Tab. Once there, uncheck Windows Live Messenger. If you have another firewall program, you'll have to figure out for yourself how to block programs. Hi Michaewlewis
Thank you for the advice, I will try to set the Nortons firewall to block it now and see if its successful when they come home from school today.
Regards Missy Hi
Not sure if anyone will read this or not but anyway,
I clicked on my Nortons 2007, then "tasks and settings", then "change advanced settings", then "firewall protection settings", then "firewall program rules" which shows many programs which can be allowed, blocked etc. Anyway, for the program "Microsoft Windows Messenger" I set it to "block" however, my son was still able to just easily log in last night.
What does anyone think about this?
Missy You'll probably have to block Windows Live messenger as well. How old are you're kids?
Has it occured to you that maybe they know more about computers than you and that they've anticipated you're every move?
Maybe they KNOW how to unblock messenger and live messenger from windows firewall or norton.
If i were you, i'd remove their ADMINISTRATOR priviledges, uninstall windows live messenger and the like, so they won't be able to re-install it.
However, they can always use webmessenger.msn.com
i don't think there's a way for you to block it if you're kids are smart.
But you could of course as a precaution TURN on pop-up blocker and use you're internet security settings to block webmessenger.msn.com
