Solve : How do I encrypt my wireless signal and keep people from stealing from me?!?? |
|
Answer» I have Qwest modem & router combo 2 Wire SSID 238 and recently I have been getting kicked off the internet. I have to un plug at night because I am sure that some one is hijacking my signal. I live close to an apartment complex so it happens a lot and although I am secured it seems that I have been hijacked daily and not necessarily by the same person. I no longer have access to my IP address or the web site through Qwest that allows me to make changes to my signal or encrypt. I know very little about these things but was told that this is my problem. It has gotten so bad that my lap top has been compromised and despite the fact that I have recovered multiple times I still can’t fix the problem… it is so frustrating. My hope is that if I can stop them from stealing from me I can recover again and fix the problem. HELP!!! How do I recover control over my IP address so that I can make changes to my wireless, and how do I ensure that my laptop is not compromised again. I need to know what steps to take in order to encrypt my signal and firewall these idiots out of my laptop! I also recently discovered that I was being used as an outside server or drone, AND that I had a massive virus… ARG! I have downloaded everything form AVG to purchasing Trend Micro and Web Root Spy KEEPER, but nothing helps! What can I do to REALLY protect myself!!?!?!?!?!?! I am really getting SICK of having to recover my laptop, as I mentioned I have had to do that now more then a dozen times. It is to the point that I cannot download my updates anymore, so I have no real security on my computer. I have been locked out of my own laptop. The hacker has disabled all of my admin ability to download ANYTHING!!!!!! GRRRR!!!! HELP!!!!!! I think I may also have ANOTHER virus because my computer is super slow and LOCKS up multiple times per day, as well as I am re directed to unknown sites and I have pop ups all day despite having a pop up blocker!!!! I am ready to loose my mind!!!! I am not kidding! It does'nt sound like the problem is coming in through your router but a virus within your computer (trojan). You need to use anti-virus software WHILST being offline may be Nortons or even windows defender and run a full systems scan. Then I would completely remove your router software and re-install. When you re-install make sure you set a WPAK key (password) also ensure your router is set to public use and not private. In public other computers can not view or access other computers on the network. Also you mentioned this 'person' has taken your admin off, it has to be turned on, on one of your profiles or they would not have admin ability either. I'm no expert though mate so I may be wrong but what I've told you is what I know. Let me know how you get on.to set your routers settings manually do this |
