Answer» I ran a scan disk from MS Doss (this I got to from the start menu) It ran for about 7 hrs, as I have a 60 G hard drive. Now I have no clue what to type at the C prompt. It has a C:\Windows with cursor. How do I exit this? I feel like a complete idiot, but I need help. Thank you. Deb Ricetype.....exit after c:\windows and if you right click on the TOP the MSDOS window PROPERTIES see if the close on exit box is ticked....then yopu can exit msdos using your mouse ....hth...Which Operating System are you using Deb?
ScanDisk will TAKE about 1 hour per 10 gigabytes of drive space to perform a full surface scan.
Norton Utilities DiskDoctor is a little faster and better, in my estimation.
Were you at a C:\WINDOWS> , prompt?
If so, you opened a DOS window to run scandisk from & this is Windows ME and you should really run ScanDisk from the System Tools shortcut.
Anyway it seems to have completed OK which means your system is propably in good order.
FYI, You can also type scandisk in the Run window, or run ScanDisk in safe mode or from a Windows ME bootdiskette.
A:\>scandisk /all /surface , and press Enter.I always run scandisk from DOS using Win98SE. When the scan is finished I just hit ctrl-alt-delete and the computer restarts normally to windows.
