Solve : How Do I Fix HotFix??

Answer»

I keep getting the Microsoft Security Update icon.  I express install the updates.  I get a message that some updates can't be installed.  I click it and get a message saying it pertains to a Service Pack prior to my most recent Service Pack (3) and isn't needed but a HotFix is installed on my G drive.  I'm guessing it's also been on installed on my C drive but no icon is installed and I don't know where I would look to find the program, and probably wouldn't recognize it if I saw it because these programs often have a string NAME not a word name.

And then another HotFix, containing the same folders as the first one yet twice the size in MB is installed on the G and I'm guessing it's also on the C.

Trying to execute the HotFix ULTIMATELY yields a message that execution failed because of a fatal error.  I'm guessing the error is that the HotFix isn't needed because it pertains to a Service Pack superseded by a later Service Pack which I already have.

How do I get rid of these HotFixes?   Are you aware that bogus MS updates are out there and doing a lot of damage to both individuals and IT firms.  It is not a trivial issue. But it has been given very low-key. It is so bad... - but I am not allowed to speculate. You guess what it might do. The bogus update has bogus security certificates that pass inspection.

If you have any back-up or restore capabilities, not is the TIME to start using them. If you suspect you have victimized, you need to go into the CH virus removal forum and look over the recommendations there.Attached: Screen shot of two can't delete messages.  First I get the top one.  If I persist in trying to delete the file I get the second message.

Still looking for a way to delete these files.

[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/Thanks for the link, but I still have a problem!

I installed Unlocker.

The "Hot Fixes" were each in their own file but I moved each file into one already existing file so they would be easy to locate and I wouldn't accidentally delete anything else.

I deleted each file separately, REALIZING along the way that I would then have to delete them from the recycle bin.  There were about 4 files plus the one I moved the others into.

I opened the recycle bin and clicked to empty it.  I got a popup saying "x" couldn't be deleted, followed by the Unlocker popup asking if I wanted to delete the file.  I said yes and this kept happening, with different files.  At one point I noticed the question "Delete all 84 objects?"  I clicked yes and saw the number go down to 81 objects.  I kept trying to empty the recycle bin, Unlocker kept giving me the object deleted  popup , but the number of objects didn't go down, it stayed at 81 objects.

I started deleting the objects one by one, apparently successfully.  Each file stated it had 0 kb.  I was down to 2 of these 0 kb files, deleted one, and all of a sudden there were 3 files.  I tried deleting the other and I had 4 files.  I clicked to empty the recycle bin and was asked if I wanted to delete all 50 objects.  There were only 4 on the screen.  I clicked yes to delete 50 objects and I haven't counted, but I'm guessing I had at least 50 with 0 kb.

I closed the recycler and when I opened it I noticed I have a few other files.  Instead of the recycle bin asking me if I want to delete the file I'm clicking to delete it's asking if I want to delete it to the recycle bin, where it already is.  If I click yes the kb count on one of these other files goes up.  If I click to delete the files that are going up in kb content, the object is deleted and the kb on another file goes up because it's not being DELETED, it's being "deleted to the recycle bin".

I'm continuing to "delete" objects one by one, but what should I try next?

Before I started the Unlocker process I had scanned at least one of the files for viruses, and of course the scan came up negative.

 Continuing:

I took a screen print of the recycle bin when there were just 3 files left, pasted it onto Paint and saved it, and closed the recycle bin to go verify that my screen print was where I saved it to.  I opened the recycle bin and all the 0 kb files have been replicated, with a few other files added.

I'm attaching the screen print of when there were only 3.

[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]Now the files are all hidden and I don't actually know where they are.  My G drive recycle bin is asking if I want to delete all 42 items, but I know from previous attempts, they don't actually get deleted, they get replicated.

Additional:
Ok, I found the little bastards.  I changed the setting of my C & G drives so the recycle bins are configured separately.  I have the G, the drive with the problem, to delete without saving to the recycle bin.  These files are already in the recycle bin, but maybe my prior setting was keeping them there - though it never stopped anything else from being deleted.

Additional Additional:
Changing the setting to delete without saving to the recycling bin seems to have WORKED, and with everything gone I changed the setting back to save, but have kept the two recycling bins configured separately.  I wouldn't mark the problem as solved for a while, though, till I see it does not return.
