The machine has a SATA HARD disk, how do i get Vista off so i can install XP

Pleeeeeeeese HELP, I have no purpose for Vista.get the xp cd put it in and boot from it make shure to delete the partition follow these steps  http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic53502.htmlI  boot from the xp cd and follow the usual steps but before i get to the part where your given the option to delete the partition the computer displays a message saying (not the exact same WORDS) no hard drive detected.

My guess is  that the xp cd was designed to work with ide drives and the laptop has a sata drive so that may be why i get the error mesage.Strongly suggest that you make sure that you have all of the NECESSARY drivers for XP before removing Vista.

Good Luck! Not true I have a gaming pc that uses such drives an have xp installed on to it.  what you probably need to do is disconnect an reconnect the drives. Quote from: squall_01 on July 03, 2008, 06:03:35 PM

Not sure if this is a reference to my post or not; I'm not referring to SATA drivers, but, rather, chipset drivers, onboard video drivers, LAN drivers, etc. I am assuming from the original post that he wants to replace the Vista OS with XP, often XP drivers are not AVAILABLE for Vista pre-loaded machines. Got it - and you are perfectly correct; but XP doesn't have native support for SATA drives, he'll need to load SATA drivers when Setup asks for them.I never had too. Quote from: squall_01 on July 03, 2008, 06:42:11 PM

This makes no sense whatsoever.Tangfirmer...very early on in the setup process you will see a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Press F6 to install RAID/SATA drivers"  do so and then insert the laptops Driver CD and hit Enter. If there a laptop drives yes, however I was meaning desktop.  They dont pay me enough to do this stuff.
