Answer» Hello, It has been a long time since I visited this great forum. I love to tinker with computers just for fun. I am retired, along with my hubby, and although I have a great Compaq R3000 Laptop, and a Dell Desktop that is about 2 plus, years old, I have saved the old relic Gateway 2000 Pentium2's( have two of them) just to work on for LEARNING purposes. Last year I tried my hand at reformatting. Idid it, with encouragement and help, and felt so accomplished. I tried to install ( using the Windows XP operating SYSTEM CD that came with my laptop) onto the older Gateway. Found out that you can't do that. So I have had a almost COMPLETED Windows XP on this old system, that was never activated. My question now is how do I get that off, and then re-install the old Windows 98 back on there? It keeps asking me when it boots up to activate.... which of course needs to be done through Microsoft phone support. I don't want to do that , therefore I want it back off..... any suggestions? rejoicing1 Get a win98 boot disk.fdisk and format.
