Answer» I'm not SURE how to do this....
My laptop computer did not come with any discs but instead has the HARD drive (only 30GB) partitioned with the OS on D drive partition. I would like a larger hard drive but would then not have any OS to install on the new larger drive so I want to make a copy of the Windows XP that is on the drive before I get and install a larger drive. I think that the computer had a pop-up window, way back when we first got it, asking if we wanted to burn a back-up copy of the OS but now I've forgotten how to access that pop-up window. It seems that the OS takes up 15GB (the entire D partition). However, I have Windows 2000 on a CD-Rom disc that is only 700MB so I'm not sure why Windows XP would be so much larger. The computer is older and only came with a CD-Rom drive so this MUST be possible to get a copy of the OS onto a CD-R disc.http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspthanks!
