Solve : How do you remove files that are too long?

Answer»

Hey... This is an interresting and fun problem. I was backing up all my data to an external HD  via copy and paste and got an error message stating the the FILE name or path is too long in length. I troubleshot the file down to a Temporary Internet File that my system picked up along the way with a huge name of random alphanumerics like jkhd7976w8e5f765w7e6f8689wef7567ef6786w ef786weqf.... and so on with no file extension.

I was able to deselect this ONE file and select everything else to get my data backed up, then perform a full rebuild of my system, and reimport my data back.

Question is... The next time I see this, how can I delete this file without having to reformat to delete it? Any good tools anyone knows of. I tried renaming it to a smaller length name, but it would not allow this. I then said, well I am rebuilding my system anyways, so it will definately get dumped in the reformat process, and gave up on trying to find a way around the problem at that point in time.

But there has to be a TOOL out there that one of you know of to delete these stubborn files that wont budge...

BTW: My system is running Windows XP Pro SP2, and IE6.x

Thanks for your help... DaveWhy are you concerned about a file in Temporary Internet Files?  It's supposed to be a temporary file!    Why include Temporary Internet Files in your backup?KillBox solves all...Just remove temp files with CCleaner.
It's the EASIEST solution - there's no need to back them up.
To remove stubborn files that you can't delete, use Killbox as patio suggested. Quote

KillBox solves all...
Any difference between KillBox and Pocket KillBox? Or are they the same program?Looks like the same program to me.I use Window Washer by:Webroot.

It ain't free though.

I really like it. :-?

http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/windowwasher/?rc=4929&ac=5190515I've heard good things about Window Washer.
However, CCleaner does a good enough job for me.
And it's free I have no money to buy anything else.
How much is Window Washer?  Edit: $29.95 from their website.
And is it much better than CCleaner?I agree that CCleaner does a good job of cleaning Temporary Internet Files.  He could also just RUN Windows Disk Cleanup.
