Solve : How to C 400GB when moving HD to 2nd IDE connecter?

Answer»

I have an ASUS SOCK-A ATX A7V133A VIA133A motherboard, and 2 HD's.  The first is a 80GB Seagate for my operating system.  The second is a 400GB Seagate for my data.  Both HD's are on the same ribbon cable in a master/slave combo and connected to the Primary IDE connector.  My 2 DVD players are connected to the SECONDARY IDE connector on the mobo.  The Primary and Secondary Ata-100 IDE connectors are open.  I have Windows XP Pro-SP2.

The second/data HD is broken down into 4 partitions (for ease of maitenance), and each is roughly 100GB.  The first partition is primary, and NTSF.  The second partition is an Extended Primary, with 3 logical primaries in it.  I've attached a PICTURE that shows the details in case I'm missing something or explaining it wrong.  Everything works fine right now.

I was told that I can have better performance if I move the data HD to the another IDE connector on the mobo.  I tried connecting the data HD to the Primary ATA-100 IDE connector, but Windows would only recognize roughly the first 200GB (the first 2 partitions).  I put the data HD back in the master/slave combo and I can see all 4 data partitions.

What do I need to do so that I can move the data HD to another IDE connector and see 400GB?  The ASUS manual says I can have up to 8 HD's.  I can reformat/redo the data HD as I'm only using 150GB between all of the data partitions.  Will I really notice an improvement?  Is it worth the hassel?

Probably not .....

Thats just my opinion ........others may have a differant one .

dl65  I use the HD to record my TV shows.  I thought I would have better performance(less pix'ing) if I tried this.  The recording of the show is fine, it's the playback.  There's other things I can try on the Hauppauge 350 card, but this is what I'm most FAMILIAR with and wanted to try first.I forgot to mention, it takes FOREVER for the computer to boot up.  If I move the data HD to Primary ATA-100 IDE connector, it boots up in about 30 seconds (a heck of a lot quicker), but like I said, I can't see the the 4 partitions.
