Solve : how to change the installation directory for an application??

Answer»

I've oracle installed in my system. due to memory deficiency and CONCERNING about the future circumstances which may arise, Is there any way to change the installation directory for Oracle without reinstalling it.
current installation directory is C:\OracleXe
I want it to be D:\OracleXe

here is windows xp sp3

such that, the application will work as it before.

sanI think not. As you know, a multitude of entries get added to Windows registry during software installation. You need to uninstall Orcacle and then install it at that new location.

Do not MERELY try to move the program folder for Orcale program files to a different location via Windows Explorer. That would most likely mess things up and make Orcale inoperative on your system.Quote from: soybean on July 11, 2008, 11:36:56 AM

where exactly are the entries made for oracle?
I searched across the registry but couldn't find

the installation path is C:\OracleXe
Don't PLAY with fire!Uninstall and REINSTALL is the only way to go.
Apart from the entries in registry the Oracle DB registers several services that won't work if you just move the install directory.Hey, Deerpark. I didn't see you for a while....Hi Broni.
Yep, been busy with work out in the real world so haven't had time to come visit for a while. But I'm back now, at least for the time being. Nice to see you back
