Answer» (XP-SP3 system) The user (which is not me) has tried to install Vista, and he did something wrong. (not important). During this procedure, the system made a large backup folder (C:\My Backup --- date time). Now, I have installed Vista properly in a separate partition thus creating a dual-boot system. This all works fine. However, we still have this large folder My backup and are not able to delete it as the system tells us that we do not have the proper authorization. We have tried: - normal delete - Command mode (DOS) - Safe mode as administrator - From Vista - With the program FileAssassin Nothing works. We have also tried to change the authorization, but this is not allowed either. Has anyone a solution, other than formatting the C-disc and re-installing XP?What are the Attributes of the folder? (R/click folder>Properties) Read-only (partial). (I did try to change this but that is not possible either) In advanced only the 2nd box is "on" (indexing service) you may have to take control of the folder before you can make permissions changes. go back to the properties and than security and click advanced and open the owner tab. you should be able to take ownership from there.... I don't KNOW if this will be much help but the other day my friend came to me with a similar problem. He couldn't delete a bunch temporary files beacuse it said he didn't have the right administrative privileges or something like that. All I did was boot into Safe Mode and I could delete them. However, because of the huge number of folders and files in the backup folder that I wanted to delete, I took a different path. I used an XP Live CD to access the system and changed the ownership of the folder. Then made sure that this ownership was transferred to all subfolders. Next, I changed the attributes to give the new owner (me) full control over the folder and its subfolders. Then, FINALLY, I was able to delete the folder. Thanks for all support. Nice Movie! Move! you may have to take control of the folder before you can make permissions changes.

go back to the properties and than security and click advanced and open the owner tab. you should be able to take ownership from there....

I tried that but it won't allow that either, not even as Administrator in safe mode.
