Solve : how to find value of Y-axis from a given value of X-axis in MS Excel?

Answer»

if the ordinates of X-axis are
0.25, 0.5 , 1.0 , 1.25, 1.5
and ordinates of Y-axis are
220, 398, 515, 598, 638, 662

and we have to find value of Y at X=1.33 !!!! how that can be done ?Forecast option won`t work, as the values are not steady.Sorry, we don't do homework here.thx for your assessment , this is not a homework, i was working on something else ( daily rest and work hours of staff) and i was having some problems in that, this i just posted as a example. Just posted this to get some help, computer is not my field thats y wanted someone to help. The answer is 42... Quote from: falik on August 26, 2012, 02:44:52 PM

Well, if I misjudged the purpose of the QUESTION I certainly apologize patio
thx but i was`nt looking for the answer, like i mentioned this is not some sort of homework, this was just an example, only if the data would have been steady then FORECAST would have helped but ..... anyway i think i might need to look for something else.

its ok !!! i guess my way of asking the question might have caused you to think that it`s some sort of homework assignment falik, you gave 6 y ordinates but only 5 x ordinates. Why? Did you omit 0.75?

Also, what did you mean the Y values aren't "steady"? Those values you gave look like interpolation would be quite suitable.

[update]... I expect the OP is LONG gone, but thinking about this, POSSIBLY curve fitting would be an appropriate method, but we don't really know anything about the range of data - those example figures may not be representative.
