Many will write your stuff to a DVD-R and even span DVDs to keep a permanent record of your good stuff. Meanwhile, the most likely issue is a hardware problem. I have this kind of problem with some USB devices. I have to unplug them before I boot my laptop. Have you tried booting to SAFEMODE to check on the difference? Can you enumerate any problem occured before the issue?
