Answer» I recently did a repair using my Win XP Pro disk. I set BIOS to boot from the disk, did the repair, and switched BIOS back. When I boot up now, I get the following message: Actually Karnac since he has the RC installed...which is a great idea...(more people should do it for repair options ) he can just set the delay time to something more reasonable....i have mine at 5 seconds. Absolutely, I do the same......5 seconds is good......I read the last line of the post and answered too objectively....as you say it's a tip EVERYONE can use.Thanks for the info. 5 seconds is good.If you really want to remove it: How to delete the Recovery Console ===================== 1. Restart your computer, click Start, click My Computer, and then double-click the hard disk where you installed the Recovery Console. 2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab. 3. Click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK. 4. At the root folder, delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file. If you don't know your root folder search for these files and delete 5. At the root folder, right-click the Boot.ini file, and then click Properties. 6. Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK. Warning: Modifying the Boot.ini file incorrectly may prevent your computer from restarting. Make sure that you delete only the entry for the Recovery Console. Also, change the attribute for the Boot.ini file back to a read-only state after you finish this procedure. Open the Boot.ini file in Microsoft Windows Notepad, and remove the entry for the Recovery Console. It looks similar to this: C:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons 7. Save the file and close it. Does it work? Removing Recovery Console is a horrible idea. |
