Since the issue is not an INCOMING connection, a firewall would do no GOOD for stopping the adware.

I might be wrong, but does a firewall not also (potentially) STOP outgoing communications as well?

Or am I a moron?Quote from: Sid on May 04, 2007, 12:32:51 PM

You're right, a firewall does stop outgoing connections but adware usually doesn't work that way. It's not normally blocked by a firewall. Trojan horses are, but those aren't adware. Adware is (in a lot of CASES) like a website

If you can load a webpage, then an adware POPUP can be loaded. It uses your default browser (normally)

No, you were right.

Zylstra's explanation wasn't very technical, but adaware is related to websites and I think they usually connect to their master servers through the same port the browser does, and most firewalls are configured to let this traffic through.. Hence the reason why firewalls don't really work well unless they block internet traffic.
